How To Get Involved Wetlands Woodlands Conservation
Woodlands and Wetlands Trust Seeking Treasurer
The Capital Woodland and Wetlands Conservation Association (“the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust”) is a not-for-profit organisation setup to deliver innovative partnership arrangements for the management of Jerrabomberra Wetlands and Mulligans Flat nature reserves. We are legally an Association incorporated under the ACT Associations Act, and accordingly are governed by a Committee (with similar responsibilities and near-identical operations to a Board of a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee). Having recently been through a reform process that saw the appointment of new Committee members and a General Manager, establishment of our finances in Xero, and the transition to a not-for-profit operating model, we are now seeking a Treasurer to help guide and check the management and Committee in its financial operations. The Committee meets approximately monthly, the role is a voluntary one, and we are seeking expressions of interest for our Treasurer’s role – we are looking for an appropriately qualified person that wants to help us make a positive difference to the environment in Canberra.

I would like you to join me, not in saving the whole planet, but to ensure that 600 very important hectares are looked after in perpetuity. I am not asking you to do something I am not prepared to do myself! All of my colleagues on the Board of Capital Woodland and Wetlands Conservation Trust have donated time and funds to the Trust.
Also I believe it is crucial because with a little bit of luck we are going to do a lot more than save 600 important hectares. The Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary and Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve have the potential to be sites of national and international significance they are Canberra’s living Laboratories.
Committing to set up a scientifically monitored and managed site in perpetuity is a very big ask, only done to date in one or two places on the planet and on a much smaller scale. Those sites have revealed much more about the world, not just ecology, than they were ever thought to do, and I assure you this could be as powerful and important well beyond my lifetime.
So please join me not only for the future of these places, but also for scientific outcomes that we cannot yet imagine…
